30th August 2012 | The National Theatre
Curious about Curious Incident? As part of the Inside Out festival, Salon London and the National Theatre have teamed up to present a chance to dig deeper into Marianne Elliot’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens. Salons always include three of the country’s most passionate speakers from across the arts, science and psychology and offer a sneak peak in to their worlds.
15yr-old Christopher, the protagonist of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, has an extraordinary brain: exceptional at maths, fascinated by the workings of the universe, while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. The first two of our speakers get inside the mathematics and the cosmology that make Christopher tick.
Marcus Chown, known to many as the Cosmology Editor for the New Scientist, will be explaining the secrets of life, the universe and everything and for one brilliant transcendent moment you will understand the quantum world.
We have Staff Director Katy Rudd who will be explaining the National Theatre's production from the inside out.
We are all fantastically capable mathematicians, calculating the risk of our actions with every step we take; yet most of us would consider advanced probability beyond our understanding. To explain and interpret the statistics of risk an chance that are presented to us our daily lives, David Speigelhalter OBE Professor of Public Understanding and Risk explains the real numbers behind uncertainty, leaving you able to interpret statistics like a pro.
