8th December 2011 | Westbourne Grove Community Space
Salon hosted its first fabulous Christmas party on the 8th December. We had our first pop-up fair trade bazaar abuzz with Salon hostess (Niki, Juliet and Helen) who had created a visual baccanalian feast for the eyes, candleabra and pomegranates bedecked tables, the room bathed in pink light and candlelight.
The food was simply world-class, and a respectful hum of people turning their attention to the food was adulation enough for the Salon team and our friends at Alwaha. The tables piled to groaning point with many plates of many dishes. The moutabel was the only dish in danger of running out, but we had so much food, we were glad all our left over food was offered to a homeless centre for the following day. We have ethics at Salon, you know.
After dinner everyone relaxed with a little baklava as Howard Wilmot, creator and writer of the hit West End show Burlexe, introduced some of the lively ladies from the show, there to acquaint us with the secrets of their trade as we stroke our chins and consider the question 'Burlesque: is it art?' 'Not sure,' was the answer but it certainly raised the question in a truly divine way. Salon favourites Kevin Dutton and Michael Brooks were there to celebrate our Salon with us, and we loved having our talent to celebrate with us.
Then we all danced to the tunes of the Diksko Soundsystem as DJ Alex, our house DJ worked his magic on those decks.
Thank you, one and all. Our normal Salon returns on the 2nd February 2012 with Dark Romance.
