14th November 2014 | Hampton Court Palace

Imagine the scene, it’s a crisp November night - Hampton Court Palace is closed to everyone but us. You’re handed a warming glass of wine before being walked through the Boleyn Gates, and up in to the fine Cartoon Gallery for a very special Salon as we consider the collecting of art.

Charles I put Britain on the art collecting map, although it came at great personal cost.  We will explore this must-have Monarch’s psychological need to acquire with acclaimed psychotherapist Philippa Perry, and the danger of amassing Catholic art in a Protestant country with the National Gallery’s Matthew Morgan. To conclude the Historic Royal Palaces Curator of the Collections Brett Dolman will talk us through the pieces Charles I had to have, and their links to the art in Hampton Court Palace’s brand new Cumberland Art Gallery.

Following Brett’s expert talk we will be able to sneak a peek at The Cumberland Art Gallery to wander through the collection before it is officially open to the public.

Includes a drinks reception at the Clore Centre before walking through the magic of Hampton Court - we told you it was our birthday -  tickets here.
