Salon North gets up close to personal taste.

Music:

Author and musician Daniel Rachel wanted to get beyond his personal taste in music to understand the creativity at work in songwriting.  ‘Isle of Noises’ is the result of his epic project to reveal and document the stories behind the UK’s best songs. The result tells us so much about the creative process of songwriting, gives an in depth understanding of the craft involved; and helps us enjoy our playlists on a whole other level.

Food:

Renowned philosopher Julian Baggini helps us examine our taste in food, asking the question could it be food is better for the soul than art? Certainly thinking seriously about food requires us to consider our relationship to nature, to each other and to ourselves, so perhaps thinking about food can teach us about being honorable, and help us to decide how we want to live, all of which are big themes in his book ‘The Virtues of the Table’.

Books:

Summer is the time most people turn to fiction for stories to divert, entertain and enjoy, but how to be sure you get book that is right for your tastes?
