Are we human or are we chancer? On 20th September, Salon London will be at the (gorgeous) Hospital Club, Covent Garden with three incredible speakers to find out.
Dr Adam Rutherford, star of science on screen, and author of Wellcome Trust prize shortlisted ‘Creation’ described by The Observer as “one of the most eloquent and thoughtful books about science over the past decade”, will unpick the age-old question - are we really any more special than other animals? In an original and entertaining tour of life on Earth, Adam will explain why we like to think of ourselves as exceptional beings, despite the fact our biology is indistinct from all other life.
Historically, economists and firms alike have thought self-interest is the main source of our motivation, but what if that is not the case? LSE's Professor Nava Ashraf’s pioneering research on Altruistic Capital, the idea that every individual has within them an intrinsic desire to serve, shows that today more employees than ever before want their work to have meaning. Hear Nava detail her incredible research that challenges (and sometimes disproves) popular economic theory.

The award-winning presenter and comic, Robin Ince will be on the Salon London stage to examine the human condition through the prism of humour. And what better way to understand ourselves than through the eyes of comedians - those who professionally examine our quirks on stage daily?
