Before starting Storythings, Matt was Head of Multiplatform Commissioning at Channel 4. In this role, he was responsible for running the Multiplatform Commissioning team with a £7m budget for multi-platform projects around some of Channel 4′s biggest brands, including Million Pound DropSkinsMisfitsEmbarassing Bodies and Big Brother, and developing a new commissioning strategy based on emerging audience behaviours.  In addition to managing a restructure of the MPC team based on this strategy, Matt also recruited and managed the team responsible for building Channel 4’s online presence for the 2012 Paralympics.

 

In 2010, Matt founded The Story, an annual one-day event about new ways of storytelling, featuring speakers from a diverse range of practises, including Film, TV, Science, Art, Theatre, Games and Online Content. Previous speakers have included Graham Linehan, Cornelia Parker, Adam Curtis, Martin Parr, Cory Doctorow, Matthew Herbert, Liz Henry and Aleks Krotoski.

Matt is a regular speaker at industry events, including Guardian Activate, the IPPR Media Convention, C21 Futuremedia conference, Thinking Digital, Sheffield DocFest, Intelligent Factual and MIPTV Cannes. In 2010 he was listed in both Broadcast Magazine’s ‘Hot 100′ and Wired Magazine’s ‘Wired 100′. He regularly writes for a number of publications and blogs, including Wired UK.

Matt is on the Advisory Boards of the National Media Museum, Culture 24The Edinburgh International TV Festival, The Children’s Media Conference and The Brighton Photo Biennial. He also sits on the BAFTA Children’s Committee and the BAFTA Learning & Events Committee.
