Anatomy of Love

Lisa Appignanesi is a prize-winning writer, novelist and cultural
commentator. She is Honorary Professor in Literature and Medical
Humanities at King’s College London, Chair of the Freud Museum, London,
and outgoing President of English PEN. She is also a former Deputy
Director of London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. She has a PhD in
comparative literature, lectures and broadcasts widely and was made a
Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in recognition of her contribution
to literature. She is a judge of the Orange Prize 2012.
Listed by The Guardian as one of Britain’s top-twenty women public
intellectuals, as a cultural commentator, she reviews for The Guardian, The
Observer, The Times, and The Independent, has written features and
columns, and broadcasts frequently, having appeared on Woman’s Hour,
Start The Week, Saturday Review, Late Review, Newsnight, etc, as well as
at many festivals.
Throughout her career, she has worked to promote literature and the arts.
She served for four years on the Board of the Institute of Contemporary Arts,
on the Management Committee of the Society of Authors; she has judged
various prizes. As Deputy President and then President of PEN (2003-
2011), she built up the organization and made it into a top campaigning
charity for literature and free expression, initiating the Free Expression is No
Offence and the Libel Reforms campaigns, amongst others.
