Astronomy, Now!

Emily Winterburn studied physics at Manchester University, followed by History of Science, first at Manchester and then at Imperial College, London.  She worked for many years at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich as curator of astronomy and is the author of The Astronomers Royal (2003) and The Stargazer’s Guide (2008).  She is currently the curator at the newly formed History of Science Museum at Leeds University and is writing a book based loosely on her doctoral thesis (working title Science and Fashion).  She has written for Astronomy Now and Sky at Night Magazine and appeared on Woman’s Hour and In Our Time on Radio 4 and on What the Ancient’s Did for Us for the BBC.  She will be explaining the Yorkshire spring heavens to the Salon North crowd, and maybe even the Transit of Venus.
